Gay was the one who was good at keeping me posted about the latest news. I got all my gossip from her. Kenny Rogers was still alive when she told me we would watch him perform if he came to Canada. No wonder he never came. He's gone, too.

We saw the news at the time. It was 2020 during the COVID lockdown. 81 years old. If he had a concert today, his singing voice would probably be weak. Kenny was super famous; his peak years were the 1980s.

We don't get anymore news from the Philippines. Mama used to watch TV Patrol everyday so all the news was up to date. Everything related to the Philippines, including all the movie stars, as well as Raffy Tulfo.

But when it came to Canada, she didn't know anything 🙂

Yes, even the news about the movie stars, she knew. Me too: if it's news about Canada, I know nothing. But if it's about the Philippines? Hehehe 😊

That's because it's more entertaining.

When we lived in the Philippines, Mama would read all about movie stars in magazines. Our daily newspaper was People's Journal, but was changed to Inquirer; I heard the change was because the news in the former was all about killings.

She would buy People's Tonight whenever she would come home late. She would also buy us Pinoy Comics.

When we came to Canada, Mama was attracted to the tabloids at the grocery checkout. I remember the magazines because I read them, too. The days before the internet were different. Aside from TV, magazines were still an important source of entertainment.
