For Mama, other people were always the protagonist. Among us siblings, we all had birthday parties, as you can see in old pics. Papa is the same. Mama did not like having the attention on her—she wanted it on others. That's why until the very end, she wanted to keep things simple. As in, you know, the spotlight would not be on her. She also really liked her "alone time."

That's true. Because wasn't Mama always thinking of others? However, for Mama's 50th birthday in 2006, her friends and coworkers at McDonald's were able to throw a surprise party for her. On Sunday, June 11, 2006, two days before her actual birthday, they came to the house and they surprised Mama. Mama looked very happy that day. Here is a recap video of the festivities:
